Mindful Manipulation

The “I” in Idea

Got through the really difficult time of year rather filled with plot ideas! Oh my goodness, if no one has ever explained it before, it is such a rush! That part is one of the things I absolutely love the most about being a writer. So it was as curious as it was glorious to experience!

Trailing along behind the copious hand written notes, the shadows begin to appear. As if the epiphany’s are trying to shine through a dusty old lamp shade letter by letter. Word by word. Try to clean the dust off and your throat closes trying to breathe through the sand storm you inhaled.

This time I imagined each sentence written with the darkness, using the lead of my pencil in representation. Instead of the insecurities chasing me, hiding behind every word I type. All that vulnerability leaves as the dark ink, as opposed to festering into a prickly ball of nerves inside me.

Another discovery of some interest. A pattern in my writing process that cracked me up. Referring back to those inspiring moments, when that idea for a story first hits, my mind explodes with all the places it could go. As if in a split second I have written an epic and it overwhelms completely!

Once the pattern was identified, it helped me to lesson the immediate exhaustion and choose which plot wants to be told the most. The ability to take a breath before reacting to any adrenaline rush, will help to remove some of the negative effects. When the adrenaline of the great idea wears off and you are left with the work.

Laughing is some of the best medicine. I have spent the past few days laughing as much as scribbling away the fear of my own creativity.

Today is the first of November. On this day each year, The National Novel Writing Month begins. Please follow the link in the text as well as listed below to find out more information about that. Anyone can take a run at it!

This means if I write, I’m at the starting line for that marathon, and say it out loud, so to speak, it will become real. I will have to type words.

New Work In Progress: Thriller/Suspense *(First time trying this genre!) November 1, so far word count: 878 and counting. (Going back to it-)

Updated Word Count: 1376 for day 1.

Thanks for the read!
